Establishment

1838
Uriach was founded in Barcelona, Spain, by the first generation of the Uriach family. From 1838 to 1879, the company ran a small pharmacy specializing in health-related products and medicinal plants. From the beginning, Uriach has remained a family business, and today fifth and sixth generation members continue to play an active role in its ownership and governance.

1858
At the same time, in Germany, the city of Bad Ems has become one of the main spa centers in Europe. In 1858, the spa's hydrologist and pharmacist had the idea of pressing tablets from the salt powder that was left in the inhalation. This led to the creation of the first Emser lozenge, designed to relieve sore throat and hoarseness.

1873
In 1873, pharmacist Samuel Benoni Siegfried founded the pharmaceutical company Siegfried in Zofingen (Switzerland), which bore his name. From this company later came the company and the Sidroga® ("Siegfried Drogerie- und Apothekendienst"), which became the leading brand of medicinal teas in Germany and Switzerland.

Development

1880
In Spain, under the leadership of the second and third generations of the Uriach family, the company expanded its activity to the distribution of medicines and created its own R&D laboratory. Throughout the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the Uriach family traditionally collaborated with a wide variety of artists to develop product advertising, giving rise to distinctive and visually striking graphic pieces. Visit Uriach's Google Arts and Culture page to learn more about our history and artwork.

1895
At the beginning of this period, in 1895, Pascoe was founded in a German pharmacy, laying the foundations of a brand rooted in pharmaceutical expertise.

1952
During the first half and mid-twentieth century, many of Uriach's flagship Spanish brands were created, including Nico-Hepatocyn, formulated with artichoke extract, and Biodramine, a motion sickness treatment launched in 1952.

Consolidation

1961
In Spain, the fourth generation of the Uriach family expanded its pharmaceutical operations and invested heavily in R&D of New Chemical Entities, taking advantage of the opportunities available in the traditional pharmaceutical business of natural products. In Germany, the historic brands Emser, Sidroga and Pascoe continued their expansion. Pascoe's flagship products, such as the Pascorbin range of intravenous vitamins, were successfully launched during the 1960s.

1973
In 1973, Dr. Daniel Hausmann Montaner created the Aquilea brand in a pharmacy in Barcelona. The brand has pioneered a scientific approach to herbal medicine, combining medicinal plants with pharmaceutical principles. The brand name is based on the scientific name of the yarrow plant (Achillea millefolium), known for its health benefits. Aquilea was acquired by Uriach in 2005.

1990-2003
During this period, several important Uriach brands were created throughout Europe. In Italy, Laborest entered the nutraceutical market in 1996 with Tiobec, a brand that remains a key pillar of the company's portfolio to this day. Laboratoires Copmed, was founded in the west of France in 1993 and has focused its activity on the development of natural products for naturopaths. In the south of France, the Pediakid brand was launched in 2003 and would go on to become the leading brand of natural products for children in France.

A professionalized family business
The fifth generation of the Uriach family began the professionalization of the company by appointing its first CEO outside the family. From 2010, Uriach entered a phase of exponential growth, repositioning its business to the Natural Consumer Healthcare area throughout Europe. This strategic transformation culminated in 2021 with the divestment of its chemical plant. In 2022, the sixth generation of the Uriach family becomes part of the governance of the business and, in 2023, the specialized investment fund ICG enters the company's capital.

2015-2017
Italy and Portugal
In 2015, Uriach acquires Laborest, an Italian company pioneering innovative nutraceuticals. Laborest specializes in the development of nutraceuticals for healthcare professionals, especially in the areas of neurology, traumatology, pediatrics and gynecology. Uriach launched the Fisiocrem and Aquilea brands in the Portuguese market in 2015, consolidating its presence in 2017 through the acquisition of the Portuguese company Theralab, owner of the local brand Depuralina.

2021-2023
Germany and Central Europe
In 2021, Uriach acquired Sidroga GfGmbH in Bad Ems (Germany) together with the Sidroga and Emser brands. Through this acquisition, Uriach strengthened its presence in German-speaking countries and expanded its direct market presence in Austria and Switzerland.
Three years later, in 2024, Pascoe Pharmazeutische Präparate GmbH, headquartered in Gießen (Germany), also became part of the corporate group. With this acquisition, Uriach has expanded its international presence to include the Czech Republic and Slovakia, while strengthening its position in the natural consumer healthcare sector.
